ABOUT VALARIE BUDAYR
Thanks for visiting the Audrey Press site. Let me tell you a little bit more about me. I am a writer, publisher, blogger, world traveler, photographer, entrepreneur, classical composer, mom to three great kids, wife to one patient man, and a lifelong learner. In short, I’ve been blessed with a life I strive every day to create and enhance. I celebrate my blessings because my creativity flows best when I focus on what I’m grateful for, because it reminds me of what makes me happiest.
Other passions of mine, in my scant free time, include all types of music, books, reading, crafting, cooking, especially with my children, and gardening.
Our Mission: The mission of Audrey Press is to inspire children, families, schools and all of our communities, no matter how small or how large, to experience, discover, and create our world together through the power of books. Audrey Press strives to plant the seeds of adventure, magic and togetherness by taking books off shelves and stories off pages. Discover, Inspire, Share.
The creative products you will find here on my site stem from my heartfelt desire to provide inspiring materials for families to share together, to build bonds, to create ties that bind in a joyful way and creates the most loving of memories, good times and just plain fun and affection. It’s about how to celebrate how we share our time with the ones we love, with the ones whose paths we cross, whether lifelong or fleetingly. All relationships are gifts and sometimes it’s the briefest ones that are the most precious. It is my wish that, after reading, watching, or listening to one of these products we’re sharing here with you on this site, that you’ll be up, out, and moving forward to create many cherished moments of your very own.
I was born in Portland, Oregon, in the United States to Swedish parents who emigrated from the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea.
I grew up in the Portland area, in Gresham, Oregon. After high school, I went to Portland State University, where I graduated with a degree in piano and two minors in language — German and Japanese. After receiving my degree, I continued my music and musical composition education in Austria where I lived for four years, spending two years in Vienna and another two years in Salzburg. I stayed in Europe several more years, where I met my husband and we got married. We’ve been married for 22 years and have three children we adore.
Once we were back in the States, I began working in the Community Music School movement, creating music schools for children and their families. For 14 years, I had a very active piano studio with over 60 students. I’m also a classical composer and have won the National Endowment of the Arts “Meet the Composer” Award on two separate occasions.
When my youngest son was about three years old, I retired from teaching piano and began spending what would become many years with my children playing, crafting, living outdoors, and travelling.
Five years ago, I became co-owner of an online language company called LearnSweden. I took my love of business to a new level, working and connecting with the world on a virtual basis, an amazing tool that let me connect with people across borders without giving up home and family time. The online learning platform allowed me to work from home yet still be a hands-on mom to my kids.
Audrey Press is a culmination of my love of books, writing, family, my “Jump into a Book” website, and my LearnSweden business. I currently live in Tennessee with my husband and our three children, who range between middle school and University, and, lastly but by no means least (at least in his eyes), our greatly beloved cat, Oscar.
